Get answers to your questions about our infrared sauna.
At Himalayan Hideaway Salt Cave, we are excited for you to try our infrared sauna and reap the benefits of using it. Infrared saunas are different than traditional saunas, so we know you may have questions about using this type of sauna. Below, we have answered some questions about our infrared sauna, so you can prepare for your visit and feel confident coming in for your next appointment. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Q: What happens during an infrared sauna session?
A: Expect to sweat, but feel amazing afterward! Infrared saunas don’t heat the air around you the way traditional saunas do, but instead the infrared panels warm your body, and the heat penetrates more deeply. As your heart rate goes up and your blood vessels dilate, there is an increase in blood flow to the skin, helping to improve circulation and collagen production.
Q: How do I prepare for a sauna session?
A: Since your body sweats during the sauna session, you should be well-hydrated beforehand. You can drink water while you’re in the sauna, but drinking water beforehand gives your body a chance to get ready for the intense heat prior to your session. Avoid drinking alcohol immediately before the sauna session, since it can increase your risk of blood pressure changes, irregular heartbeat and unexpected complications.
Q: How long or often should I do a sauna session?
A: If you are not experienced in sauna, it is recommended to start with the shorter 15-minute sessions and work up to the 30-minute intervals. The sauna is safe to do several times a week.
Q: What can I bring inside the sauna?
A: Water, towels, reading material, a friend! (The sauna can be a social experience when you go with a someone you enjoy chatting with during the session.) Electronics are NOT recommended — extreme temperatures will damage internal components. You can also use the quiet time to destress, relax and have a break from the world.
Q: What do I wear inside the sauna?
A: The best way to experience the full benefits of an infrared sauna is to wear the least amount of clothing. (However, no nudity is permitted at Himalayan Hideaway Salt Cave.) Focus on comfort and breathability when dressing for the sauna so that you are able to sweat naturally to keep yourself cool. Clean, loose cotton clothing, such as shorts and tank tops are acceptable. You may want to bring a change of clothes after using the sauna.
Q: What should I NOT wear in the sauna?
A: Avoid jewelry, make-up, lotions and tight fitting/dirty clothing.
Q: How hot does the sauna get?
A: Between 125 and 140 degrees. We typically keep it around 130 degrees.
Q: Do you have showers at Himalayan Hideaway?
A: No, we do not have showers.
Q: How many people can the sauna accommodate?
A: The sauna can fit two people, or possibly three associated guests.
Q: Do I need to make an appointment?
A: Yes, we need adequate time to heat the sauna. We also require a minimum of 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If we are not notified of your change in an adequate amount of time, Late Cancels or No Shows may result in charge of up to 100% of the service cost.
